Breeding Color Question

rkhorne Oct 13, 2006 06:39 PM

Friend of mine has a 1 year old that came into color a little over one month ago. We introduced the male, no witnessed breeding but there were marks on her neck. Color then subsided. She's now starting to come into color again. Any ideas/suggestions on what's going on? Is this normal right before they lay, or is she coming into season once again?

Thanks,
Roger

sometimes my guys would lose their color and then regain it fairly quickly if no eggs were laid. it's a bit out of season for her to be laying now but not unheard of.

what kind of marks were on her neck? if he is really aggresive, be careful. i once had a guy take a nice chunk out of a girl's neck that needed vet care

In captivity, there cycles get messed up. She may be ovulating. Most likely it's too late in the year for the male but you never know.

She's a WC Mojave Desert 2005 hatchling that has never been hibernated, thus the messed up cycle. The male is a WC Mojave Desert 2005 adult who also has not been hibernated. He did not show much interest last time. However we introduced him late int he cycle cause we couldn't believe her getting color this late either? Think we'll try it a little earlier this time and see how it goes. If nothing, hibernation here we come.
