$$ of Baby Childrens

reako45 Oct 14, 2006 11:44 AM

Interested to know what people paid for their Childrens (that sounds kinda wierd --- like a black market smuggling ring or something). I bought my '05 hatchling last year for $80 (Sept 15th). I've seen them this year ('06 hatchlings) selling for $125. What's up w/ that? Has anyone else seen the price go up as well? Wonder if it's just the price I pay for living in SoCal. Seems everything's more expensive here.

You will see ups n down in pricing in many snakes and I believe it is all due to how many seem to be available that particular year. If breeders realize they may be one of the only people producing something, or that other breeders are getting a higher price than they expected to get, they are influenced to assume what a fair market price may be for that year. This is why I believe it is good to stick to your guns as far as breeding projects go. One year something may be in demand and you may sell out fast at a good price while other years you can't get half of what you expected to get....seems to go in cycles and if it were easy to predict....there'd be a lot more people breeding snakes. This was our first year going to shows as breeders, so we we had a pretty low price. We sold most of this year's hatchlings for $50. They went like hotcakes and we sold out between 2 small, local shows in Western NY. There were hardly any other antaresia at those shows, and certainly no other breeders. Plus we've had several email inquiries lately, so I get the sense that demand for them may be going up. A local (reputable) pet shop has a yearling for $100, and we may pick it up to start another breeding pair. Next year $70 and up seems to be a good bet.

People will pay better money for better animals. Speaking of which, I may have another clutch of these soon....
