New, Never Before seen pics!

Rick Millspaugh Oct 14, 2006 05:25 PM

Man, I crack myself up. These are the first pics I have taken of this guy. He is one of the three males on my list of Thayeri to keep and only one gets to stay.

With the pose. I'm lucky to get them to stay in one spot. The only things I have worst are Hondurans. Next to Pueblans, they are the squirliest little (not so little) eating machines around.

So a trick that i use when photo graphing the little ones ( my camera is broken so i cant use this trick) is i put them down and put a deli cup over them to get them coiled/compacted, and then i get my camera ready(when it isnt busted) and i lift the deli cup and snap the picture before they realize what direction they want to go in, try it out, it usually works great for me

I guess you didn't notice the round deli-cup impressions in the sand (lol). They are wise to that trick and laugh at me.

Rosy Boas are even worst, though they move MUCH slower, they just never truely stop moving so their pics are almost always a little blurry. I have noticed out in the wild that this is true too, I see Kingsnakes sitting still on the side of the road (or sometimes in the middle of the road) while Rosy Boas are always moving very slowly on the edge of the road. Wild Kingsnakes are fairly easy to get a picture of because they will stop and go into a defensive position.

free hand instead of a deli cup and I always use a tripod now. I get ALOT more control over both the snake and movement.

I'm a control freak

Do you have a remote for your camera? knowing myself i would go to take the picture and knock the tripod over, breaking another camera, i should have a new camera and my computer up and running by december, so i can finally post some pics of my newer snakes. right now i use the computers at the university of vermont, lickly i am 23 so i can still blend in with the college kids

Adam

I don't use a timer or remote. I have the tripod set way low and very close to the lichen rocks that I take most of my pictures from. I frame the rock in the camera viewscreen and then I set the snake where I want and cup my hand over it until it feels like its settled and use my other hand to take the pic. I then use photoshop to crop the pic. I've had excellent results with a really cheap camera.
