what would you do?

cmfiscel Oct 14, 2006 08:42 PM

after several years of keeping different herps, i'm convinced i want to focus exclusively on ball pythons. i'm planning on getting a practical rack system and begin with a small number of animals. besides the beauty of the species i think it would be wonderful to make some money doing what i love. my question is this: if you were just starting out and wanted to make a wise investment in this market, what morphs would you begin with? i've already considered a lemon pastel and mojave as almost certainties. what others would you consider worthy? i'm not wanting to spend a small fortune but do have the resources available if needed. also, does anyone know if there are combination racks out there for balls which house several different sizes in the same rack? any comments or advice is appreciated and thank you..........chris

I would buy a couple of Albino females, a Ghost female and or some Het Ghost females, a Pastel Het Ghost male and or a Ghost male, and a Pied Male and some Het Pied females. I also would buy several Pastel females.

I would get this

0.10 normals...never can have enough
0.5 lemon pastels
1.0 spider
1.0 pinstripe
1.0 citrus ghost
0.2 het citrus ghost
1.0 albino
0.2 het albino

I would breed
pinstripe to 3 pastels
spider to 2 pastels
citrus to het citrus
albino to het albino
spider to 3 normals
pinstripe to 2 normals
albino to 2 normals
ghost to 3 normals

out of this u would get, bumble bees, spiders, pastels, ghosts, albinos, lemon blast, pinstripes, 100% het albinos, 100% het ghost.

On average on a four egg clutch you would get this much
pinstripe x8
spider x 10
pastel x3
lemon blast x3
bumble bee x2
citrus ghost x4
albino x4
het ghost x12
het albino x12
normal x10

you could do that breeding above or take a lemon pastel to the ghost and get pastels 100%het ghost....thats a pretty popular morph now

for prices of these averages between males and females
pinstripes 2000
spider 1000
pastel 300
lemon blast 7000 (correct me people if im wrong)
bumble bee 4500
normal 20
ghost 1100
albino 1000
het ghost males 250 females 750
het albino males 75 females 450
(pastel het ghost about 3000)

toal selling of these animals if they all hatched and were sold is
$88600 minus bedding, rats, time, effort....

Hope this helps you could also get a male pastel and a female cinnie and make some pewters or get a male cinnie and make super cinnies....endless possibilities....thats why I love balls...hope this helps....this would be perfect

any other questions....im here to help

they said they were getting one rack and they liked lemon and mohave.......therefore they should just get a lemon male and mojave male to start and 8 females.....4 for each male...the rack is now full......10 cages per rack usually....

.......other than that..get what you like and can afford
