Record Size in Gophers?... Pics?

reako45 Oct 14, 2006 10:16 PM

Since there've already been similar posts regarding pines and bulls, I figured, what the heck, what about the 3rd member of the Pit trio. I've heard of people finding 6 footers out here (SoCal --- LA County), but I've yet to see one that big. Californiaherps.com lists 7' as being the record size.

Hi Reako

That was actually my new baby axanthic bullsnake het speckled/patternless snow (see pit addiction post). I don't keep any pacifics since I have the sayi to keep me busy with the cool morphs. I do see them when I go hiking in the summer/fall. They are fairly common in some areas around NorCal. Here's are some pacific pics for yah. Note that these aren't the largest gophers but I do hope they get to be bigguns' so we'll have more little ones in the wild. Anyway, enjoy the pics.

in all the years I have been hunting all over the southwest I have maybe seen two legit six foot gophers.I did see one in the sonoran desert zoo that was a legit seven footer. They had it in a huge cage with a gila.It was a sonoran and is still the bigest gopher I have ever seen.
