His first kill!!

dragonTaTu Oct 15, 2006 04:23 AM

I wish I had some pics, it was truly interesting to watch my young cal kill his first live meal. He was started on frozen/thawed pinkies, and I decided it was time to move up to fuzzy stage. The local pet store was currently out of stock of frozen fuzzies, so I opted for 2 frozen pinkies and 1 live fuzzie. (the pinkies were in case he had any difficulties with the fuzzie) The mouse was on top of his "cave", and when he struck the mouse, he actually knocked the mouse off the cave and missed it when he coiled around it. It took a a bit of trial and error and a lot of twisting and redirection, but he was able to get himself wrapped around the mouse. Then, after killing the mouse, he picked it up and carried it around in his mouth for a few moments before finally eating. Almost like it was a trophy, "I DID IT!" lol. What can I say, I love this little guy already, it's almost like watching a child learn new things. They truly have unique personalities. Anybody else have any interesting stories? I enjoy reading these sort of posts. Thanks

This isn't really a story but an interesting display of a cal king's personality. My 3-year-old-and-too-short-thanks-to-me-feeding-her-too-small-mice-in-fear-of-harming-her femme fatale actually recognizes my scent even though I barely hold her. When I go to open the cage, she automatically thinks that food is on the way and begins associating any movement with food. I actually stick my hand in the cage, and before she bites, she sniffs my hand with her tongue. After a few seconds, she goes back and does her regular routine of checking out her cage. She's only ever bitten me once because I wiggled my hand too much. A real bundle of personality she is. Now I just gotta get her to breeding size and get a male to see if I can have babies with her personality.
