Does anyone else have piebald kenyans???

krusty Oct 15, 2006 05:24 AM

Well my albino female gave me a nice surprice last night when I got home from work. She gave me 11 healthy babies and 1 slug. I noticed last year that one of the babies had a small portion of the tail that was patternless and solid orange. I thought wow thats kinda cool looking and just decided to keep her. Well I was expecting more snow babies this year from her since she is het anery but was disappointed to see none this time. I then noticed when I was removing the babies that 3 of them had large portions of patternless area. I again didnt think much about it but kept thinking last night. Does piebald have to be solid white? I dont think that it does, but I could be wrong. I will be off from work on Wed when there is daylight so I can get some pics and show them off. I would say it needs to be white. I would like to see pics, is the patternless area the same in all of the individuals? I have seen a few reduced pattern albinos that are awsome looking animals(more orange than normal)but I don't think it could be considered pied. It would be odd if the reduced pattern was always roughly the same shape and in the same area of the body in all babies that are produced like that. lets see some pics when you get a chance.
I know that the pieds that VPI has have never proven to be an inheritable trait, but some others are working with hopefull pieds but I have never heard, other than rumors, that they have been succesful. I havn't seem the pics yet.

This is only my third year breeding kenyans so I wasnt expecting alot or anything "new". The orange isnt a reducing in pattern because I have some in the group that are reduced this is a large odd shaped patch of just solid orange. All three of this years babies are kind of an overall weird color in the orange and in the white. They have now started to go into shed so even if they are on Wed I will get pics the best I can. I have pied ball pythons so except for them being orange instead of white they look like pieds. The orange spots are different sizes on each. I will say that it does tend to be more to the rear of the body, but I wouldnt say its like a ringer. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting. I will love to see the pics. I don't care if they are called Pied or not they sound neat. If you can get a pied looking animal like in ball pythons only the colar is orange, I think that will make an awsome looking kenyan. You may even be able to get some, over time, that are almost completly orange, who wouldn't buy that. Hopefully it will turn out to be a resesive trait.

to me it looks like your head toward a completly orange snake,i think that would be cooler than a pied.

krusty Oct 18, 2006 09:40 AM

These are in sunlight of this years babies and some holdbacks of mine from this group. The babies are still in shed so they are still hard to see. Let me know what you think.

Those are much better pics. natural light is always better.
nice animals, I would agree with Robert, a totally orange ksb would be cooler than a pied, and from the look of those, that would be a great line breeding project. Great Kenyans!!!Thanks for sharing pics.
