so, the new cali king pair that I brought home from the expo isn't a pair any more! I went to check on them and the female's sterilite was empty, and the snake was nowhere to be found in the reptile room. There's enough clearance under the door for it to get out of the room, but if it made it out, I doubt it survived the night, since we have two cats that are well aware that all the wriggly goodies come out of that room...

*sigh*

I've never had an escape before, in all of my 13 years of keeping reptiles...

that sucks but you can't give up hope you'd be surprised how long a snake can survive (even with the cats)... i had a yearling honduran escape back in `03 she came back to me months later near full grown!!

here's the snake i'm talking about

so like i said ya neva kno!

Watch the cats.
That's how my parents found my little brothers escaped Okeetee corn.

So our cat Squidget started meowing all funny in the kitchen and trying to get at something over by the stove, so we took it apart trying to find the snake... no luck there, but she was kinda freaking out still and acting funky, so we pulled some old boxes out from under our prep table and BANG! little snake starts whipping across the floor!

so the escapee is back in her shoebox, and another shoebox is stacked on top so it's weighted down... I am *soooo* relieved!

i just found an escapee hatchling corn the other day. Mine had been out for a couple days, but was still in the same room (actually right behind the rack that it escaped from)
Its always great to find an escapee and even better when you find it before it gets injured by pets or other things.
Congrats again

Congrats on finding your kingsnake alive and unharmed! However, I suggest you buy a cage with a locking mechanism....looks nicer than a cage with a bunch of books or rocks on top. Are they hatchlings?

yeah, they're only about 10-11" long, pencil thick. I have them in sterilite shoeboxes like all of my other hatchlings, and I know that her escape was MY fault... I didn't close the lid properly so there was a rather obvious way out...

Mistakes happen to even the best of the best. Be glad you didn't have to learn your mistake the hard way. I saw the pictures you posted earlier in the forum. Very beautiful animals you got. Leota, my cal king, seems to be jealous lol.
