Hi all, I have a quick question, do the male african bullfrogs have a yellow throat and the females have a white throat? Thanks for everything, take care.
Sincerely,
Dave

Often times, sexually mature Pyxies do exhibit color differation. Males will infact often have a mroe yellow throat, however, this is not a rule, rather a general trend. Many times, hefty males will have rather cream throats, with the concentration of color closer to the front arms. Also, females sometimes keep their dorsal stipe. Not all too often, but if your adult pyxie has one, and its growing as much as you'd expect, it may be a female.
Here is an example of a male that exemplifies a more pale tone, rather than the quintessential dark olive that many males have. As an adolescent it is very hard to sex the individuals, your ebst bet is to base it on growth rate, vocalization and particularly distince sexual dimorphism (sometimes pyxies have exceptionally blatant trends, ie-very yellow throat, extra lumpy skin, etc). But for the most part, its a matter of sexual maturity, however I'd say the general trend of throat coloration being a sign isnt a bad bet.
Good luck. By the way, how old is your pyxie? Any pics?

Theres that example...
hi, thanks so much for the help, I appreciate it. I don't have a pyxie yet, but I am seriously considering getting one, I just want to get a male and be able to pick one out or make sure I did get one, but if I get one will definitely post some pics. Thanks again for everything
sincerely,
Dave
Well, since sexing is hard when theyre young, go with your gut. I was lucky enough to have a choice between 4 siblings, the one I picked was the hardiest and the darkest shade of green, leading me to believe it was a male. But either way, some females get pretty big, so you wont be dissapointed. But as I said, if you are able to, see the siblings and determine which one is the largest, etc. I think that may be a good way to go about it depending on the age and stage of development.
Good luck with your purchase, theyre great pets. Nice and aggressive. Is this your first frog? I personally own a pyxie and a pacman, and let me tell you, theyre so different, its amazing. The pyxie will chase and attack anything, and the pacman will sit and swallow anything that walsk by, theyre awesome.
Cheers.
Yeah, it would be my first frog, the pyxie seems just so interesting and I had no idea that frogs like that existed. I think there was on the NG program Eye of the Leopard, the cub was smacking it with it's paw, it was cool to see one in the wild if only for a bit. Thanks for everything and take care.
Sincerely,
Dave
