Rapid weight loss/pinched excess skin

nicolealexander Oct 15, 2006 12:53 PM

My 3-4 month hatchling has had rapid weight loss (fine looking on 10/10/06, pinched excess skin by 10/13/06 and still that way today 10/15/06). I tried to feed her but she wouldn't eat so I force fed her a small pinkie. I also isolated her from her cagemate and have her temps raised slightly (85-87 F). I have a fecal saved in the fridge that happened 10/14/06. Anyone have any ideas? This is my first corn to keep but I have kept herps for 4 years.

but you also have the issue of having a cagemate in there with her. Perhaps she is stressed by having another snake around. I would soak her for a bit to try to get her hydration level up, and I would also get her to a vet ASAP.

Sorry to say that my corn passed on 10/16. I am taking her in tomorrow along with a beardie that I am fostering for a local zoo that was a pet someone dumped. I'll see what happened to my corn to prevent it in the future. I think the force feeding might have been part of the problem, but she also looked half starved. And to think that she ate normally exactly one week ago. I am guessing parasites or bacteria. The vet will find out.

sometimes forcefeeding can cause so much stress that it will finish off an already weakened snake. But it still hurts to lose an animal.
