Ever heard of this happening?

I had a ball python several years ago (has since passed on, escaped during winter months, his 2nd escape during his 5 yrs. with us. It is very cold where I live, and he wasn't able to adapt to the extreme temperature drop. sad) However, Blade (name), had a very friendly and affectionate nature that extended past the human members of our household. I also had a white long-haired cat, Missy, that seemed very interested in blade. She would sit or lay, even sleep, by his cage for hours, so I decided to see what the reaction might be if they were to physically "meet". It was one truly unexpected, as the cat would lie still while Blade crawled along beside her, and even climbing on her, neither ever making a move to harm the other. Missy would even purr as blade would smell her, and rest his head beside her. I continued to allow the two animals to socialize with one another, and I never had a reason for alarm, as they appeared to get along wonderfully. I have even watched them sleeping next to one another (well, I don't exactly know if the snake was sleeping, but he was calm and the cat was sleeping.) I had some pics on an old computer, very cute, though I am not sure if I can find them again. I would like to post a few if I can locate them. Anyways, has anyone ever heard of a snake and a cat, or other combination for that matter, hitting it off like that? It was a very interesting experience.

I know that a lot of people are resistant to let their cat interact with smaller animals, but I have always held to the belief that cats can get along with any animal. This is certainly true in my house. I have a cat that I trust with all of my animals. She has never once gone to bother my bird, lizards, snakes, or mice. She is supervised with the animals when they are out, but there has been one or two occasions where I forgot that my bird was out flying around my room and I left to go downstairs...Cleo (my cat) never bothered her. I feel that she knows that anything that I bring into the house is family, and should be treated with respect. Wildlife however is a different matter...she always catches the wild mice that sometimes come in, but she never kills them. She usually picks them up and deposists them ALIVE on our bed--with us in it! Lol. We might just have an exceptional cat, but I believe that cats have the potential to get along with any creature.

I have found also that cats can generally be very social with other species, unfortunatly, they also tend to rely on insincts to kill and eat small animals. I kept several anoles when I was younger (10 to 12 yrs old) even had the potential to breed. One of my large females was gravid. Really exciting!! At least until the cats figured out how to open the lid. I hope they tasted good, I was close to shooting the cats. I also lost a baby bearded dragon. The damn cat actually unclipped the lid clamps, opened the lid, and was nice enough to leave the tail and hind legs for me to find. They are too smart for their own good at times. I no longer keep cats, but I do very much admire their ingenuity. The white hair Missy was truly an exception with the ball python. She also was friendly with the iguana I had for several years also. The iguana wasn't quite as fond of the cat though, he would try to run away in most cases. Thanks again for the reply. Right now the only animals have are a female rosea tarantula, have had her for 8 years, and a california kingsnake, new to the family. I am planning to obtain another ball python in the near future. The personality of Blade was unreal. Went with me everywhere. He even helped to prevent a buddy of mine from getting a DUI, (I was the passenger) as the police officer would not come too close the car once he saw the snake around my shoulders. lol. anyways, have great day.
