Yeah...I got problems too...aint it cool!! I really like that Sunglow Sonoran, do you plan to breed her to the hypo? Who did you get your Cape Baja from? I produced some hets. this year myself. Here's a picture of my breeder male.

I just aquired a Southern Pine. He is 54" and 780 grams. I currently have him in a Rubbermaid - 22"x16"x9".
Is this tub too small for a Pit of this size. I feel sorry for him?
Anyone?

jswanson737 Oct 16, 2006 09:55 AM

This is the tub that snake came in before cleaning, haha, to clarify. It is a 28 quart sterilite, I have seem the same containers at Wal-Mart, like 4$.

Ideally I would love to have them all in 40-55 gallon tanks, but with so many, I guess the containers are the way to go, I kind of feel bad too, but I have seen alot of people house their larger snakes in something this size, maybe a little bit bigger. Seems like a boring life, but I guess they do ok.

Maybe you need some more opinions, good luck.

Pines get a little bigger, but the size you mentioned should work fine. The tub I have pictured is a bit smaller than that.

Thanks, both of you.
What about hides?
I notice a lot of people who use tubs provide no hides. Is that because the snake feels secure in a rack/bin container?
I have provided one hide at the front on the cool end. It takes up almost half the bin. If I provided another on the hot end the bin would almost be taken up by hides.
Right now he seems to favour the one hide I have provided. If only one hide, should it be at the back on the hot end or at the front?
Thanks in advance.

LibertyReptiles Oct 16, 2006 12:26 PM

I don't use hides unless I have a snake that just doesn't ever get comfortable. I know most people say that is not the way to do it, but I've did it for years with no bad effects. My animals are not in a high traffic area, so that definitely makes a difference. I've just always liked being able to enjoy the beauty of them, and not just look in at a box.

I use pieces of pvc conduit in my racks. 2''for my bulls and smaller for my gophers, milks, kings and ratsnakes. My bulls are in large Cambro tubs, in racks bulit by Jason Vankirk at rosy racks and more. I was alittle worried about them not being large enough tubs. But they have reproduce the last three years.

Thanks, you know, I was thinking about that, which male I should breed to the Hypo, the Sunglow, or the Cape Gopher, Any advice? I really am not sure, I got a steal from a guy that ran a rescue shelter, and was looking for a good way to get rid of some snakes quick...

Don't mix, keep the sonoran bloodline pure.

The Sonoran and Capes ranges are close, but not sure what you would get, I would definitely breed the Sonorans. I'm sure you will get more opinions, but I believe all your babies would be double hets.

That's great, any opinions are gladly welcomed, I kind of like the idea of keeping the sonorans together... now to find a female cape...

I would definetely breed the sonorans to each other and not to the cape, as they are a different subpecies.
