Viper gecko question

jennie Oct 15, 2006 09:31 PM

Hello,
Seen one of these guys & thought they looked awesome ! We have a leopard & AFT gecko (housed in different setups of course) & wondered how these vipers are ? Are they mean or calm *easy to handle* ? Just thought they were different & pretty. I read they only get 4". Is this their body area only or from head to tip of tail ?

Thanks for any info.

Jennie,
Vipers are one of the cutest little geckos I've ever kept. They are great for those that are space challenged as several can be kept in a 10 gallon tank. They are easy to keep- very similar to leopards. I like to provide a number of overturned flower pot bases or broken pots. The only difficulty is providing the right sized food. Small mealworms, 3/8" crickets or large wingless fruit flies should be provided.
They lay their eggs in the sand so provide about a half inch of sand in their container.
I would caution against handling these little guys. They can be a bit quick just when you don't expect them to be. And, being so small, they certainly can be a bit delicate.
Good luck with your vipers if you decide to go with these mini-geckos.
