Well I have been working on a B. dubia colony, to try and rid myself of crickets. BUT.... I have to say this, Be careful with the larger roaches, Orange heads, so on, unless you also have BIG lizards to feed too.
The adult roaches are pretty big, and some of my collareds handle them, but some can not and prefer the mid sized. Which is good, because you need MOST of the adults to continue to breed for more and more baby roaches.
I have alot of other lizards like Panther chameleons, large leaf tail geckos, and a large Blue tongue skink, and black agamas, who absolutely LOVE the big adults, so I do treat them to the big ones here and there.
*** This is what I ran into as far as the large roach breeds, the hatchling collareds, and young collareds, can eat the tiny newborn roaches and do when they see them move, but the newborn roaches and small roaches play dead and lay still on their backs (very cool defense) but the baby collareds will not eat them unless they run, so I had to use crickets to get them to eat. The older collareds are not fooled by the slick little roaches, LOL they EAT them.
So I guess I would have to say to try a faster smaller roach like your lobsters or turkish roaches, they are also popular.
I was not ALLOWED to bring in any roaches that could climb or fly so thats why I went with the B. Dubia. My husband said if he saw one on the floor he would get an exterminator, LMAO
I like the B. dubia though, because one medium roach is quite a meal for an older collareds and they seem to relish the young ones too. Nice part is everytime I look in the roach bin, their are more babies. Sure different than seeing crickets die off and less and less each time

Yeah be carful which roaches you choose. I got some from a pet store here in Vegas. I didnt think the roaches I got could walk up glass.... I tell you, Not cool when 30 roaches get dumped into a glass tank and all 30 run straight upto the top and out all over the place.

Hissers are super big, won't work for a collared LOL But here is a link to a roach site , you can just purchase a few at a time if you just want to try them or only need a small amount.
Just tell him you want some medium ones to feed a collared lizard.
