What kinda O/U you shooting there. I have been wanting one for a long time, but being a recent college graduate with no job, it is hard to afford one. Nice elk by the way.

Ruger Red Label 12 gauge. I also have a 20 gauge. I worked in the firearms industry for several years and really fell in love with O/U's. I really like Beretta O/U also but they are way out of my price range. Email me and I can give you some other reasons why I'd go with Ruger.

BTW the elk is actually a smallish 6x6. Check out my website to see a really big one.

I wish I could afford a good double right now, I wish I could afford a new 870 duck gun for this season, but I need to find me a JOB. Good looking elk, both of them. I have never killed an elk. I did see some this summer up north of Durango, CO. I made a 4 day trip from South Texas to Gunnison, CO a couple months ago. It was fun.

New Mexico has realy become a melting pot of people from all over the country in the past several years. We have people moving here from just about every state. The other day some friends were talking about some of the new out of staters and a real estate agent friend mentioned that he's shown houses to someone from every state but Vermont. I mentioned you almost made it to NM when you were in Durango. The real estate agent said people from Vermont are the only aliens left. It was just funny because I'm the only one who even knew an alien from Vermont

Wow, nice bike! What kind is that? Looks like a big engine. I need to get a new one real bad. Mine is desperately trying to die. If it didn't have a kick-start, it would be dead.

I see you are in to archery as well. I don't bowhunt, but I enjoy a little target practice with my recurve.

Thanks for sharing!

The bike is a Yamaha V-Star 1100. They also make it in a 650. Best bike I've ever owned. I ride about 280 days a year so I've definetly put it through it's paces. They make the V-Star in 2 models the classic and the custom. Mine is the classic. You can find used bikes with very little mileage and wear at a huge savings. Look in your local classifieds. I didn't (at first) notice your bike in the backgound. I'm guessing its an older Honda???? BTW thats a great picture of YOU in that 3rd pic. I hardly noticed the snake either.

I belong to a local archery club and we have about a third of our members who don't hunt but do shoot at our weekly 3-D tournements. Stick bows (long bows and recurves) are really making a huge comeback. I'm kicking myself for selling my old Fred Bear recurve a couple years back. I sold it way to cheap. I'm in the process of buying a new Bowtech compound. It's called the Tribute. I'm also trying to sell my Matthews SQ2. Archery has gotten to be an expensive hobby. I'm sure its not near as expensive as flying though. Does your family own the plane?

Wow, thats a big bike! I bet it's a ton of fun. You're right, mine's a '76 Honda CB360. It's a little squirt, but it gets me around the city. Though, it is getting a bit nippy here so I've just been using my car lately... sigh. I would love to get a nice newer bike like yours, so I wouldn't have to worry about it breaking down. But, I'll have to stick with the older used ones for now... they are MUCH cheaper!

That's too bad that you sold your old recurve, they are a lot of fun. I'm afraid I don't know much about the compounds. I've only pulled one back once or twice, the let-off was nice but I still prefer the recurve. Which do you prefer? Compounds?

Flying is a VERY expesive hobby. I want to be a corporate pilot for my career, so it is for more than just for fun. I got my lisence a few years back, and my instrument rating a little over a year ago. I'm getting ready to start my commercial in about a month... it'll be good to get that rating out of the way. Naw my family doesn't own it, the plane in the picture is just a rental. (Haha, if my family owned a plane I probably wouldn't live so far away from them! Lol!) It's a Cessna 172, and it's an OK plane. It's not too fast, but it's good for sight-seeing and it has a decent glide ratio. I'm actually in the process of learning a faster plane with retractable gear, it is really fun and prettier to look at too.

Ahhh... there I go. I get on the subject of planes and I don't shut up. Sorry to ramble on.

I've got a bunch of random hobbies. Other than reptiles, archery, and flying... I play the didgeridoo, fly r/c planes, photography, and I am learning the bagpipes. Seems like you've got a bunch of hobbies as well. Do you have a hard time finding time for them all?

Great pics! That's got to be an awesome feeling flying that little plane. My father has always been into airplanes. He was an airplane mechanic in WWII, but hasn't flown himself since he was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 24. His dream was to build a little twin engine plane, but at 82 he doesn't have the space, nor the money. My sister is the one that he passed the flying gene to. She has her pilots liscense, but doesn't use it very much. No one in my family knows where the reptile gene came from. lol. Hopefully I can pass that one down someday when I have kids. If I did have my pilots liscense I sure as hell would be flying to a different expo every weekend. Maybe I'm better off because I would put myself in the poorhouse. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Ken

waspinator421 Oct 18, 2006 05:45 AM

Yeah, little planes are so much fun. I prefer them to the big ones, because you actually feel like you're flying in a small plane.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, that sounds like a great dream to have. I can't wait until I get my multi-engine rating so I can fly a little twin around!

I know what you mean, I've been sooo tempted to fly out to the expos too. It would be so fun, but then I have to reason with myself why I shouldn't. Not only would the flight be expensive, but then I'd want to buy things at the expo! Maybe I'll go to a big one sometime... we'll see.

As for the random reptile gene... reptiles are addicting and kids seem to love them. I'm sure you won't have any trouble passing it along!
