Reptiles for education?

UroTamer Oct 15, 2006 11:56 PM

I'd like to hear from "owners" out there which species are friendly and don't mind being handled? I want to build education and awareness of reptiles and amphibians. Also the importance of doing your research and set-up before buying them. Which are good, which aren't. I've read about a lot of things, but want to hear from people who have them.
Thanks

I can only speak with experience about snakes. The red rat snake (aka: corn snake) would be the best all around choice in your case. Its a beauty, docile average length is about 5 feet.

Another good snake might be a milk snake/scarlet king snake, or, some other vibrantly colored king snake (Honduran, etc...). I've never owned one but I believe they are pretty docile by nature.

There are other docile snakes that don't get very big but the ones I mentioned above are the, "Wow! Check it out" snakes. Great attention-getters.

Good luck!

It is said that 1 out of every 4 people are mentally unbalanced. Think of your 3 closest friends, if they're normal, then it's you.

Thanks Happy. I just got an e-mail from someone about a corn that sounds good, but I'll be keeping others in mind too. Eventually I'll be adding more kinds so I can alternate to reduce possible stress.
