Bin sizes for Pituophis?

durrus Oct 16, 2006 09:38 AM

Hi Guys,
I know we have some breeders on here and many folks with multple Pits.
Well I've caught the bug.
I have 8 snakes. The mosy recent 2 are pits. My adult male Bull is 54" and 735 grams. Heis 6 years old so I don't think he is going to get bigger. He is in a 36"x16"x20" glass tank. I think this will suffice for him.

5 of our other snales are in glass tanks and we are running out of space. On the weekend I built a rack that holds 22"x16"x9" Rubbermaids. My newest snake is a male Southern Pine, 54", 780 grams. I have him in the Rubbermaid. Eventually, if he gets much bigger I will have to bite the bullit and get him a bigger cage or tank. I feel a little sorry for him in the Rubbermaid. I take him out daily for a 1/2 hour or so and let him move about my lap and chair so he gets some excecise and attention.

Please alleviate my conscience. Is it Ok for him to be in the Rubbermaid for a while?
Thanks

I like 74 quart boxes from Sterilite. I get mine at Target. They are about 4 foot long. Cost maybe 15 bucks? I keep most of my large Brooksi and Pits in those and they do very well in them.

Thanks Tom.
I've seen these but was worried they are too shallow?
Do you use them in a rack or with the lids? How do you secure the lids? Do you provide hides?
Thanks

I use the lids, and I tape them if I feel I have too. Only in the center.... I just made a shelf for mine. Though my breeder female Pine seems to be more comfortable in a 45 gallon aquarium...most do not mind the much lower roof over thier heads in a container. Tom Stevens
