ill viper boa

rhyion Oct 16, 2006 05:10 PM

my friend bought a small viper boa the other day and it is very sick, if has a lot of mucus and makes a clicking noise when it breathes. how can he help it or prevent it from happening again? i would guess it has something to do with humidity. what is the humidity suposed to be like? because we dont know what kind of place it was in before he bought it, so maybe they didnt have something right in the cage.

thanks

Sounds like a respitory infection to me. I'd go to the vet and get him checked out to be sure. If you get prescribed antibiotics for him I'd suggest the injectable kind, as i've had problems getting giving the oral medications in the past. Shots are much easier!

Viper boas need very high humidity around 80 plus percent. A huge water bowl that they can soak in and I usually give them alot of bedding because they like to burrow. There temp range is a little lower than bci. It does sound like a respitory infection. I would get him to a vet and raise the temp a little and keep the humidity high. Hope this helps Vinnie
