snow baby keeps reguratating

gtk4158a Oct 16, 2006 07:24 PM

I got a pair of snow babies last week and i am having a problem with it reguring its food. The baby will eat aggressively. First the set up. Both babies are kept in "critter keepers" 5.5 gallon with a heat pad under one end of the tank. Temp is aprox 80 to 82 degrees. It is in a quiet part of my house, i use about 3/4 of an inch of "carefresh" and has a small water dish and multiple hiding spots. Its "feeding" brother and my other snakes, all hondurans, are kept in the same room.Like i said, its brother is, knock on wood, doing great and is a real good feeder.

what am i missing gang? The snake in question seems healthy. It is quite lively. But the bottom line is that anywhere from a few hours to over 24 hours it spits its mouse pinky out.The last time i fed it it was on a newborn rat pinky and i thought i was outta the woods but about 24 hours after i fed it the same "spit it out" response....Give me a course of action please...And dont you know that it is the female that is doing it and not the male!!! Thanks gang G

And what kind of stress levels is she under? Any handling going on? If you just got her last week, how long did you wait to handle her and to feed her? How long after the regurge did you try again? I assume that you are keeping them separately, from your post. You should wait at least one week (maybe even longer) after the first regurge before feeding again, and then you should feed a food item about 1/2 the size of a regular item. IF she regurges two times, wait two weeks. If she regurges a third time, it is vet time ASAP! Some people take them in after two regurges.

Thanks for your response! I really do not handle babies very much at all, this not being a exception. As far as stress goes my snake room is quiet without any traffic other then me.I fed her about 3 days after the first regurge, which in hindsight was too soon. I will wait till next week and try again.I will have to take her to a vet if she does it again. all my other hondurans are fine and eat like hogs, including "sicklys" brother whom took a newborn rat pup and "processed" it, LOL...if i missed something please let me know and thanks a ton for your info!!!!
why is it the expensive one are the least cooperative?

thanks G

about the most expensive one being the most fragile one. Ask any breeder about the totally unique animals that do not make it out of the egg. Good luck with your baby. I would give her at least 10 days off with no food, or even 14 days. Give her stomach acids a chance to rebuild.

Thanks for the advice.I made an apointment with a vet for this saturday but i think i will cancel itand make it for next saturday, that way i can give her another small pinky maybe next tuesday or wensday. That will have given her about 9 or 10 days to recover her stomach acid supply. Also it was hard to tell but she was undergoing a shed and as of today, thursday, she shed.My larger hondurans are doing well enough and i seem to remember my "high dollar male" baby tangerine albino didnt eat well when he was very small, but with him he just didnt eat.Funny how "murphys law" applies to exspenive snakes and also to ones job. Once again thanks for your advice
