What Brand of Night Light?

HappyHillbilly Oct 16, 2006 09:17 PM

I'm looking for some input on the best brand of incandescent night lights. My 60-watt red Zoo Med just went out after only 3 weeks. I'm using one of the black reflector domes with ceramic base. Can't remember what brand it is. ESU, I think.

Thanks!

I don't even use a nightlight. as long as it's around 90F in one corner and 80F or less in another you're good to go. That does require heat tape or the like. If lights are what you use that works fine. they usually last longer though; make sure it's not getting hot and burning itsself out. -phillip

Yeah, I've considered going with some type of under tank heating or maybe even a ceramic heat emitter on a dimmer but I really liked the red night light 'cause we could sneak into the room & watch him at night.

I know the bulb should've lasted longer than it did and the only thing I can think of that might've happened is my son might've bumped it while it was on, even though he said he didn't. He's good at telling the truth, mmost of the time. Heck, he's a boy.

Strange thing is the filament looks good and that's what usually goes. Yeah, I've tried it a few other lamps, no go. The dome lamp it was in works fine with other bulbs, too. Most likely just a faulty one.

Thanks for taking the time to help out, chameleonphill!

Have a good one!

chameleonphill,
Just thought I'd share my experience with you.
I bought a 60-watt blacklight and after a few days I noticed my young leopard gecko wasn't nearly as active at night (or day). My first thought was that something was wrong with my gecko. After examining him & not seeing anything physically wrong I wondered about the blacklight. Bought a 60-watt red night light and the gecko was practically doing cartwheels the first night. Been active as normal, since.

No more blacklights for me.

Thanks for your input, Phil!
