OH NO PLEASE HELP!!!

FrostDragon Oct 16, 2006 11:20 PM

oh no oh no oh no! okok heres the BIG problem: long story short-Sora is living out of his cage in the side of a cabinet since yesterday. He has had no food or water since then and I can not get to him at all. Its his choice whether he lives or not by coming out. I mean, he CAN get out but i put a small little gate around it that he can't get through. Please help me! I don't want to lose him!!!!!

Rig up a container with some food in it, make sure he can't climb out of the container, take your gate off, and watch him walk in.

That has worked at least 15 times with my corns. My little sister likes to leave my cages open.

Yes, go for that. And use patience. Patience and food are your two best friends in a situation like this. I've had my hedgehogs escape a couple times like this, and they just wouldn't come out from under one of my shelving units! PATIENCE! AHHHH! It's so nerve wracking!

I can't because...well, the hole is vertical. He climbed UP and when I try to see where he is I can only see pitch black. And there is no way to move the cabinets or anything because its attached to the wall. I've tried EVERYTHING and nothings worked. But your idea was good. But I still need LOTS of help.

I got another ace idea, though i'm not sure of the set up for you, so my appologies if this doesn't work. Depending upon how much room you have below where it crawled up, you could cut a hole in the top of a container, and then use firm plastic to make two lips, but enough for him to push through but just for that - for him to push through, not back up. Fill this with food and wait.

My idea was that of a one way entrance, if the explination above doesn't make sense. Just keep an eye on the container if you can rig that up, and it should come out eventually, right? It wouldn't just stay up there and starve to spite you.

Are you positive it's even still up there? Have you been keeping surveillance on it?

FrostDragon Oct 17, 2006 09:29 PM

yea its still up there because I've gotten little "presents" in the morning from him. I know he's still up there. I just know it. And that was a good idea but I'm not sure if the cabinets up high enough...

Think you could snap a picture of the area? Capture devices would give me something to do during Psych tomorrow. :P

i totally would but my camera is not digital and its like wayyyy old....hmmmm i could take one but it would take like 4ever for me to send it to u

AndrewFromSoCal Oct 17, 2006 10:23 PM

Hmm. How many inches do you have under the bottom?

FrostDragon Oct 22, 2006 12:20 AM

not much. maybe about 1 or 2.

AndrewFromSoCal Oct 22, 2006 01:24 AM

No containers to find that fit that size?

FrostDragon Oct 22, 2006 01:27 AM

sadly no. and my gecko's going on what? 5, 6 days w/o food and water?

AndrewFromSoCal Oct 22, 2006 02:28 AM

You could try a smallish painter's dish, those get pretty shallow. Are you sure it hasn't moved?

FrostDragon Oct 22, 2006 03:08 PM

yes i am sure he has not moved.

DarkBlades Oct 17, 2006 03:29 PM

I wish I could see the whole situation... The cabinet must be big? Why not get help and move the cabinet to where you can easily grab him? Or if hes under something too heavy, why not scare him to the other side?

My male Gecko is a escape artist, he has escaped a total of 6 times , 2 diffrent houses. 2,3,4 times hes escaped, I found him the fallowing day near his cage fernature, I guess he knows where he will get food if he cant find any exploring around my house. But anyways, the times I did find him, I used a dark shoe box to attract him. Leos like Dark Places, like flying bugs like bright light.

Maybe you can flash him with a flashlight into a dark box? Better then actually Poking him out or something. lol good luck.

Have you tried a flashlight and a handheld mirror? Might help you get a better idea of how he's situated.

Is he coming out at night? Are the 'presents' you see located directly below his new 'hide' or are they around on the floor?

If he's coming out of there then maybe the best solution is to provide him with a preferred hide location. If not, then perhaps you could cool the room somewhat so that the cabinet is uncomfortable then let the room itself begin to warm and put a warm pack inside of a container that could serve as an easily entered hide. When your gecko senses a better thermal location maybe he'll move there. Dunno. That's just a guess. I imagine he'll come out of there on his own. Trick is getting him to stay out but not go anywhere harder to reach.

I think if you can get a squirt gun or mist'r with a hose to spray in there it would come out (unless it's stuck, which I hope not) The water would both scare it and might make the sides slick enough so it slides out. Good luck.
