Normal Feeding Behavior?

crazydragon Oct 17, 2006 04:22 AM

I have two smaller dragons, Duke is 5 inches, and Buttercup is 6 inches. When they are feed in the tank they just sit there watching the crickets run around, I take everything out of the tank when we feed. If I put the sticks back into the tank they sit there untill the crickets come up to them, or they look like they are on a hunt and chase them down. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it better to just let them do the hunting thing!Zabaa my 16 inch dragon never did this, the temp. in the smaller dragons tank are around 100-115 degrees, if I keep it lower they don't eat. Thanks for your help.

Temps are fine for babies. 115F

To be honest if they seem to feed better when the sticks are in the tank, then I 'd leave them in. It maybe that when the sticks are removed they don't recognise their surroundings or feel a little exposed, and so they don't bother to feed.
Personally I'd encourage them to hunt on their own, otherwise they'll get lazy.

If they seem healthy otherwise, just feed them enough crickets that they'll eat in 5-10mins. If there are a lot all at once in every feed, they might just be too full.

Only u can decide whats best for them by watching them really.

Feed whichever way they seem happier.

Hope that helps.
