ballfreak Oct 17, 2006 02:21 PM

i have a few balls and two have not been feeding so great lately. i put a rat in each of there tubs and they come out of there hide and go around the whole tub go really close to the rat look at him but wont eat him. i would think if there not hungry they wouldnt come out. but they look like they want to play with the rats. i hate it when they dont eat reguarlly.

I have 6 ball pythons that eat when they feel like it.Most of the time they eat very well but sometimes they trick me into thinking that they're hungry and then i get mice or rats and they look like they have an intrest but no eating. All i can say is welcome to the world of ball pythons!!

If they are not eating they are probably moving because they are stressed by the rodents presence.

My female has been known to do that quite often. It's actually how I've ended up with almost all of my pet rats over the years! One time she refused a rat for three weeks before we gave up and got a different one - which she ate!
I doubt snakes can really see color, but try getting a different color rat. That usually worked for Cindy when she was being picky.
Then again, I could just have a wierd snake!
Good luck!

that does that. Once he starts this he can pretty much be counted on to refuse for about six months or so untill mid to late spring. I offer him food every once in a while and whan he is ready he eats. He doesn't even lose that much wieght.
