Lighting

So I realized I needed a new UV Light and I went to Petco and saw it was 40 bucks for an 8.0 UV light bulb I saw this http://www.herpsupplies.com/product.cfm?id=SCL55172 and saw it was a bit cheaper and I thought I saw that it gives off heat but I dunno if it does now.

Any other good lights I could use. Should I get rid of this one??

its equal to a 75 watt bulb, but im not sure.

Lemme know =]

Thanks.

The compact spiral UVB light arent very good from what I hear.

Buying a fluorescent fixture and tube bulb is your best and most healthy for your lizard. You will also need to replace the tube every 10-12 months.

I highly recommend Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 Linear Fluorescent and I think most people here will agree.

http://www.reptilesupply.com/index.php?cPath=26_27&sort=3a&filter_id=12 here is a link to a place that has them at good prices, other places you can find them as much $50 per tube shop around.

I agree. I would go with the repti-sun flourescent. The difference between the 5.0 and the 10.0 is the depth the UVB will reach from the light. 10-12 inches for the 5.0 and 20 inches for the 10.0 This bulb will take care of your UVA and UVB needs. For heat and basking you can use just about anything else, much less expensive bulbs.

What I'm using is a self-ballasted Mega Ray for UV and basking heat plus a regular basking bulb for a secondary basking spot and supplementary heat boost to the rest of the cage. It's working very well for me so far and I'm getting 75 uW/cm2 UVB reading at basking distance - pretty darned decent!

If you're looking at mercury vapor bulbs, I'd highly recommend the Mega Ray over anything else I've heard of (MV only of course). They're very reliable and put out great UVB with little decay. I've been using them with my uros for what...a year and a half, I think? I love them!
