"Crumpled" Eggs

KellyTCS Oct 17, 2006 07:37 PM

Is it normal for incubating eggs to lose their shape a bit. Like get a little crumpled? Thanks in advance,

Every time this has happened with my corn eggs, they quickly go bad. May be different with geckos, but normally the eggs of reptiles i've seen are full and smooth looking.

Just my 2cents.

They should look full and firm. If they are deflating you may not have enough moisture in the incubation medium. Check the humidity, and you can add more water to the medium, just not on top of the eggs. another thing I have done when some have dried and deflated is put a small peice of moist paper towel over the egg, not wet but moist. Usualy takes a few days but mine will pop back up. You have to make sure the paper towel doesn't dry out though it will work in reverse.

Also you should check to be sure they are fertile if you haven't.

How do you check if eggs are fertile?

If you candle them they will glow pink. Don't rotate them when you are doing this...when I candle mine, I don't even move them off the vermiculite. You need a small flashlight with a sharp beam to do it.

With baby water dragons and coneheads I can actually see the babies moving inside the egg when they are about half way through the incubation....but I don't do the candling often...I worry about what the bright light will do to them...especially when they are more developed.
