55 Gallon tank okay for two RES?

BDHomer Aug 06, 2003 02:08 PM

Hi,

Just got 2 new RES, adopted them from PETCO. I have already one RES in a 60 gallon tank alone, and was wondering if a 55gallon tank 48inches longx13 widthx19inches height would be okay for two RES for the better part of their life? ( Might build a pond sometime in the future)

good until each turtle is about three inches long
adult sliders need like a 125 standard as a minimum.
a pond is a better choice for adults.

If possible I'd try to get a 75 gallon tank which I think the dimensions are the same except the width (yours is 13 inches) would be 6 inches wider. I'm not 100% sure but if it is, then that's a much better investment since they can turn and stuff when their older.

I'd say it's good for many years... assuming yours is male RES'... a female RES would out grow it faster. I would say 6-7 years they can live in it.. yes it might not be 10 gallons per inch but let's be honest, not all of us can afford that :P
