Albino Het Market crashed???

Melinda666 Oct 18, 2006 01:53 PM

Seems to be alot of albino hets on the market including mine. After the recent mess (yup, got me too) with a certain supplier, I'm thinking it's going to be even harder to sell Hets.

Thoughts, suggestions etc....I gotta move these babies, but don't want to undercut fellow breeders.

They are only worth what someone will pay you at the time you need/want to sell them........If you need to move them........sell them at the price you can live with. Don't worry about what ANY one else thinks.

This whole idea of worrying about what the big breeders or what other breeders thinks is rediculous. If the market is real your sale will be a flash in the pan.

Animals were selling for nearly half of standard price in Aneheim versus Daytona.

I'm an artist in my other life. I've been pushed out of several areas of selling by people offering extremely low prices for their work. Prices so low, that I no longer make a profit on my work. I believe this brings down the entire market which in the long run is not good for anyone.

I agree and although the breeders are complaining about the profits the snakes are the ones that suffer. Guess it won't be long till the pastels and yellow bellies start ending up in the shelters and rescue agencies after all once they are under $500 they become pet store fodder and half the people buying at petstores don't have a clue and unfortunately aren't interested in learning. You never see cinny's, lessers, bees etc in pet stores cause if you are paying a few grande for an animal I bet you are going to take care of it, of course there are the filthy rich but they are fewer than the poor right!

just keep feeding them and don't worry too much. If you have the room to keep them the value and need for them only goes up. I have one 2005 het female that I decided to let go this year(had been saving it but I already have 1 picky mouse eater which is enough for me) and I have a line of people wanting it. There will always be people who are just getting started and are in great need of an older/bigger animal to get a jump on things. And yes undercutting doesn't help any of us in the long run. Sometimes when people are complaining about the prices being too high I think wouldn't you have liked to pay what I did to get this whole thing going years ago

I am in it for the long haul not the quick buck they will sell when they sell.

Be consistent, be honorable. Hets are a great way to enter the market - just do your homework.

Just start inching your prices up. You won't sell immediatly but when every one else is out you will and others will see your prices and think "hey I can get a little more for mine now". Or not, but hey try it anyway.
