Eye-Impaction?

DPreston Oct 18, 2006 02:00 PM

My year old female Colombian's right eye has a little indent in it..it looks like the "shell" is dented..will it turn out ok when she shed? And will if effect her vision? ( Her eye's are clear ATM )

Oh and while I have your attention..she's just under 20 inches ( hard to get her to sit still ) and is about an inch and a half thick. Are adult mice to large? To small?

The eye-dent will go away, humidity may be low and cause this. Higher humidity can rectify the problem, if not, the next shed will. I had this happen to a ball python.

As for food for your baby. My only '06 was born May 21st. She is about 24 inches, and gets one HOPPER mouse per week. If your boa is an inch to an inch and a half thick, it is either longer than 20 inches, or it has been fed TOO much.

The hoppers I feed my little girl leave a slight lump which is gone by the next day.

Here is a pic of her, Sharp Albino 50% het Anery from Ron Michelotti:

Boas should have a nice solid rectangular shape to their body, especially young ones. Some people feed month old babies rat pups (about the size of an adult mouse), but I'd rather my snakes grow at a good and safe rate, and live long lives.

She might be a little longer. An inch or so at the most..it's a little hard to measure her when she's trying as hard as she can to avoid the ruler or is curling around in. The person I purchased her from was feeding her rat-pups ( same size as the adult mice ) so I figured I would as well. She usually has a lump for a day or so then it's gone.

Your judgement, do what you think is best for your boa.

I will be moving my '05 Leopard to Rat pups this week, he is 32 inches. Up to now he has been on fuzzy rats.

To answer the eye indention question... this has happened to a couple of our snakes even though we have a humidifier in the room running constantly. We just give them a good mist of water and the indention is gone by the next day.
