Insurance Question???

melindas Oct 18, 2006 02:38 PM

I Wanted to get renters insurance , I called my insurance company, to get quotes, At the same time i asked about insuring my snakes seperate. She told me she would call back. Just got the call they will bot write a policy because of my snakes. Said that a python is a python no matter what kind. She said that they harm young children.. I laughed at her tried to explain that these are not the type to harm anyone. I told her i realize that she doesnt make the rules, I wasnt going to get into it with her. This is a nationwide company. Where do you go to insure your snakes? I told her basically you put poeple in a possition to lie about what they have. Had I not said anything about the snakes noone would be the wiser. But if something happened she said that they would not cover anything when they found out that I had snakes.Even if they didnt ask and i didnt tell. Anyone else of this?

You're better off keeping the snake thing under wraps.

We live in a society thats pretty much full of lemmings. People's mind-set is driven by the "American Idol" and whatever the popular culture tells them to think and feel.

Really, people think a 250lb St. Bernard is cute and cuddley 'cause thats how it's portrayed in the movie theater, when it can rip a kids head off if its animal instincts rose up to the surface for a second ot two.

Do yourself a favor and tell as few people as possible about the snakes, especially if you have kids. Save the snake talk for here.

p.s. I like A Idol - its nothing against the show.

I agree with you. It is amazing how poeple view reptiles, especialy snakes.. My father in law will not come here anymore(not that i mind) because the last time he came my 4 year old had her snake wrapped around her wrist. He asked her to put it away and she said she didnt want to, She then proceeded to ask him if he was afraid of "dora" and told him he was silly that he would never hurt anyone and kissed the snake on the head. He got so mad and said that she humilated him in front of everyone.. Wasnt her intention of course. I still laugh thinking of that day. Sucks that you have keep them as a secret..

I'm not sure if you were on these boards at that time, but about a year ago, some poor guy was going through a divorce and kids were involved, I believe, and his X told the judge about his snakes....

Even though they were in a seperate locked room, away from everyone, the guy was going through hell. Having to explain and defend a legal hobby to some moron judge. A judge that should be removed from the bench for bias, or ignorance, or both.

If these are not the facts, they are very close...you can search back and probably find it.

I am sure almost everyone one this board has a story of people attacking them about their snakes.

Look whats happening to Dan and Colette Sutherland in Utah, I believe? I would think a state like Utah, the free and open west, would be more understanding of a hobby/business like snakes...but nope.

And, if you live in a state like I do - Connecticut...forget it.

We have gone from a nation of free spirited people, that raised this mighty nation up from the wilderness, to a bunch of feckless and timid cry-babies.

Do you think our forefathers would have put up with a little intillectual elite telling them what to do? No way!

People today are told what to eat, what to say, what to think. I'm 38 years old, and I cant even go to a bar, get a beer and smoke a damn cigar if I want too?

Amazing and and sad what happens, If onlt poeple educated themselves. What a shame that someone could lose thier kids because of a hobby. I get irate about the ignorance but not sure there is anything that can be done. I went to my local reps office to find about what laws protect reptiles, I basically in not sa many words was told it was better not to push for anything because then they may change the laws on what you can and cant have and the amounts..

I have never heard of people catching crap for their animals. People are allowed to have partial wolves in their yards for XXXX sakes! If it's not illegal to own the animal they should't be able to have that be a factor in anything else.

The ignorance is astounding.

What state do you live in where they allow wolf hybrids? Texas?

I used to own one but since I've moved I'm not allowed to keep one. Of course..I do live in IL now.
