A little good luck on Friday the 13th

wetceal Oct 18, 2006 03:48 PM

We had a bit of good luck last week even though it was Friday the 13th! We had been waiting on our female 100% Het. Hypo Brazilian Rainbow Boa to give birth for the past couple of weeks. She was bred by our male Hypo BRB - the same breeding we did the previous year. Last year she gave us 9 babies - 2 Hypos and 7 100% Hets. This was her second litter for us and we were hoping for some nice babies again.

Sure enough, she gave us 12 babies this year! All big, beautiful, and PERFECT! Not a single slug, still born, or deformity. And just when we thought it couldn't be any better, we were blessed by the odds too! The litter consisted of a total of 9 Hypo BRBs - 5 males and 4 females, and 3 100% Hets. - 2 males and 1 female.

Mom and all the babies are doing great. Here are some post-birth photos. I'll post some post-shed photos later on!

Thanks for looking,
Celia

Good Lord Celia,

You've just made hypos a rather common snake!

Nice clutch, that is a real blessing. If you want to join our little breeders contest post the following info on this or any other rainbow clutches you've produced this season.

Date, #live, #slug, #still, smallest mass (grams), largest mass, age of female.

I wouldn't so far as to say that although we were very happy with the odds we got this year! It did help make up for the low number of Hypos in last year's litter.

As for the breeders contest, we only had this one litter for 2006. Our other female slugged out on us again. I think she's getting up there in age though. So here are our stats...

Date : 10/13/06

# Live : 12

# Still : 0

Smallest Mass :22 grams

Largest Mass : 28 grams

Age of female : approximately 5 to 6 years old

Thanks,
Celia

Very nice at beating the odds so well this year. That makes up for last year having the odds beat you. (total 11 hypo, 10 het).

The pair I got from you 1.0 Hypo and 0.1 het are both growing like weeds. Neither has had any problems at all. The male is my best looking hypo male and may be allowed to get friendly with a normal female this winter.

That's great to hear about the male Hypo and het. female you got from us last year! I'm glad they are doing so well for you. If you have any recent photos of them, I would love to see them!
