Biting?

Skribbles Oct 18, 2006 04:03 PM

I recently purchased a new Nigerian and my gosh... does this little girl ever like to bite! She is extremely friendly and much more handleable (if thats a word) than my other Nigerian. It doesn't hurt and she is not doing it out of aggression, that I can see. Anytime my hand goes into the enclosure she will come (mostly to see if its food) then she'll sit and nibble on my fingers.

Just wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

My cat Claymore does the exact same thing when I scratch him at the base of his tail!

The animals I have that take a fanatical interest in hibiscus flowers (red and pink colors) will try for anything else of similar hue- jackets, shirts, watches, sunglasses, finger-tips etc. Many of them will run to the edge of the cage when something is spotted across the room. Of course, this leads to lots of entertainment options in a cage of two or more animals when you have a laser pointer on hand.
Do be aware of what's going on since the bite can be quite strong.

That's unusual for them to nibble on a finger at all. Could be there's something on your finger it likes? I would discourage it though if it gets to be any harder than a nibble. Did you feed it by hand when you got it? If so it could be checking to see if you have something edible. When they get older they can bite hard, like pinching your finger in a pair of plyers. Mine has done it a couple times by accident and I still had the "teeth" mark in the shape of his mouth 3 weeks later. Boy does that hurt!!
