I posted a few weeks ago asking for some advice on an adult ball that I was getting from a co-worker. I got him home last week, set up his new aquarium (40 gal breeder) with lots of coconut bark, a good size rock, driftwood, granite hide, water dish, and heat lamp/pad.
Monty's done great, he's very calm, inquisitive as all get out, and tonight a week later, had his first meal at home. He had been eating medium/large adult live mice. After talking to my local herp specialists, we decided Monty was big enough for small rat. So...one frozen small rat was the purchase.
I warmed the rat up very well using hot tap water, Monty was in his hide, and using tongs, I wiggled the rat in front of the hole of his hide....BAM! He hit, curled and made sure it was "dead". After a few minutes, he released, and went back in the hide for a few. Later, he came back out, and drug the rat inside the hide.
To make a long story short, he did great! He made the switch from live to F/T PLUS he went from a mouse to a rat. He stretched out a bit after the meal, got a drink, and went back to the hide to curl up for a nap.
I'm very pleased with this guy, he's definitely a gentle baby, and looks like he's gonna do fine on the frozen/thawed rats.
Thanks to all for the advice, I've got pics, soon as I can I'll post a few.
Bill
