Bearded dragon or leopard geckos?

Tarzana Aug 06, 2003 02:52 PM

Okay I am thinking of getting a bearded dragon, and already have a leopard gecko. I have noticed that a lot of people that have bearded dragons have been coming into the leopard gecko forum and showing their interest in getting some. I wanted to try another kind of lizard by getting a bearded dragon, but I have been wondering if it isn't worth getting one if everyone is just as satisfied with a leopard gecko. Getting another gecko would be a lot cheaper, and easier to keep. Which do you prefer leopard geckos or bearded dragons? Any help or advice would be appreciated, because I don't want to buy a dragon and find out it isn't for me. Thanks

My best guess is they are in the gecko forum only to expand their herp collection, not trade in one for the other.
I'd choose a Beardie hands down over a gecko anyday...

I had a breeding trio of leos and a breeding pair of dragons and i just sold my leos to invest in more dragons. What does that tell you? Honestly, my leos got boring after awhile because they just arent as engaging as my dragons. My dragons will actually run to the front of the glass when i come home and look "happy" to see me; me leos just layed under their hide all the time until i put food in there. My dragons will eat out of my hand, my leos never did. My dragons are BIG, my leos were big for leas, but still nothing like my dragons, and i can take my beardies out in public on my shirt or on my shoulder and they STAY there, my leos had to be restrained, so i had to spend all my time showing them off trying to keep them from going anywhere.

I just like beardies better.

mHO!

Ok, just like another person wrote in reply to your question..... I have Beardeds and also Leopard geckos, but...... I have just listed (Today) my last remaining leo group and 10 babies for sale! I want to devote ALL my time, money and experience to my Beardies.

Granted Beardies are not for "everyone" but they are better than Leo's any day! They are more interactive and friendly and actually seem to thrive with handling and loving attention.

Just adding my 2 cents worth

Thank u for the opinions. I had kind of suspected what you guys were going to tell me, as far as beardies being more interactive and things like that. I just wanted to make sure before I commited to a bearded dragon. I have rescued most of my animals, and would never give away any animal just because I lost interest, which is why I do research to insure that never happens.
