HELP! My RES won't eat!

turtlegirl190 Oct 18, 2006 09:19 PM

I am new and have a RES named Shelby. I love her she is awesome! But she just stopped eating! I was feeding her "Kaytee aquatic turtle food", then she stopped eating it all of a sudden. Now she won't eat the "zoo med aqautic trutle food" I bought her. I even bought her crickets that she won't eat, however I've never fed her crickets before so she might not be used to those...
Shelby is about 8 years old.
Thank-you in advance!

How warm are you keeping her? They need to be warm.

keep water temp. and basking temp high, water should be 75-8-, basking around 95F. try feeding her other stuff, you should be feeding her a more varied diet, and not just when there is something wrong with her.

I agree with the previous post, as increased temps mean increased metabolism means increased diet intake. Nonetheless, if it is looking weak or displays bubbling at the nose or is listless, you need to medicate it by taking it out of the tank. It may have pneumonia. You should get vet or expert turtle advice if this is the case.

The temps are probably the culprit.

if temps are too low it could also get a respitory infection, like if temps are below 70F for more than 24 hours. symptoms include: cloudy eyes, bubbly mouth and nose, cloudy skin, and lethargy.
