Call me crazy.

I was in the petstore a while ago helping son's build a Herp collection. At that point I got into a conversation with my wife and the Petstore owner. I told them I was under the opinion that some of the snakes and other reptiles look better in the natural look. Of course my first example was the corn snake. If you ask me the wild caught orange a red phase of that snake looks better then the Tens of dozens of phases I've seen. I feel the same for Burms and retics as well. But upon saying this I was met with looks and phrases like your probrably the only one. ( for the wife of course.)So just for the sake of arguement how many of you feel the same on some herps? if you could list the herps ane explain what you think.

For me it depends on the species. I agree that the wild-type corn snakes are awesome to look at. I'm also a huge fan of the normal looking retic, although I have to admit I love the albino too. I have an albino burm, but she was a rescue, so I didn't get a choice on morph. I think that the really lightly colored normal burms are some of the best looking snakes out there.

My way of not studying when I should be...
1.1 Red Bloods (Cartman and Bebe)
0.1 Boa Constrictor (Victoria)
0.1 Albino Burm (Butters)
0.0.1 Desert King (Miles)
1.1 Bearded Dragons (Stan and Wendy)

JK...No, I definitely love the pattern of the normal retic - it's beautiful and to be honest, a lot better looking than a completely dark brown snake or a completely white snake that has ugly yellow patches on it. Some like the sunfires - are extremely pretty though.

I also am not sure i like where the hobby is going with new $15K morphs and the like... a burm is a burm, i can understand like $200 more for this or that and maybe more on rare morphs, but like $45K for an afrock/burm hybrid is ridiculous - and if they really do it because they love the snakes, then they would make them more available so they could be bred more commonly

With burms i definitely like the green granites and and the normal laby's

While I will admit that some of the morphs are beautiful animals, I guess I am more interested in the nature of the animal than the animal as an art form. (Although if anyone ever has a surplus one of those all black retics someone (Gooch?) posted a pic of a while back, I probably wouldn't turn it down.)

I'd rather have a wolf than a poodle any day...

There's a few snakes that are amazing right out of the wild. I think that normal red bloods are gorgeous, and no two look the same. Also (and this might be the wrong forum to say this) but I don't know if there's anything more beautiful than a big, adult Gaboon Viper. Just my .02.

how about a gabino... anybody got pics of one?

I agree with the gaboon. I would never feel comfortable enough to keep one, but I'm obsessed with the way they look
