Brown Anole and Long Tailed Lizard

JonathanVP Aug 06, 2003 03:06 PM

I have a Brown anole and a Long Tailed Brush Lizard which I have kept together for almost a year now. They are two males who get along well together (they did have one big fight but that was the last). Last night I noticed the brown anole on top of the long tailed lizard eating away his peeling skin. Is this normal? I have never seen such behavior in the brown anole before. I have seen the brown anole eat his own peeling skin but never the peeling of another lizard!
Thanks,
Jonathan

Yes...this is normal. For some reason, anoles (I've noticed this behavior for a while with mine) like to eat each other's shedding skin. Call it strange, call it cruel...but they do it, and it's best for you to not interfere.

It's interesting to watch, actually. Sometimes my anoles will stand close to one another so they can be helped to shed, and sometimes they scamper away to shed by themselves. They know what they're doin'.
