mealworm substrate

spiderchick Oct 19, 2006 02:45 PM

Hi guys,
Do any of you raise your own mealworms? What do you keep them in? I've found so many different recipes, so I just wanted to get a few opinions from some of you dragon keepers.
Thanks!

Whole (or rolled) oats, not the "Quick" oats and not the "Instant" either... and once a month I add a ***very*** small (fresh) wedge of apple.

I've used oats in the past, but now I am using corn meal. With the meal it's easy to use a flour sifter to get to the worms. This becomes important when you are trying to get 60 or 70 at a time!

Good luck,

We use oatmeal but after Danthemans suggestion and the ease of sifting I think corn meal will be the new choice of substrate!! Thanks Dan thats a great peice of advice!!
