Lets talk about breeding

SO...

This will be my first year breeding anthill pythons and I want to hear about some techniques that different people have used with their antarasia complex pythons.

I have bred a handful of childrens pythons several years ago, and I am planing on treating these guys about the same way (just a little warmer). Over the winter I would give them a small might time drop and them return to full temps during the day. There is also a big swing of natural daylight hours here in the northeast. I put pairs together about half way through winter and let them do their thing until it is obvious that the female is gravid. Childrens always did well like that for me.

What type of cycling do you guys use?

hey zach how are those little buggers doing for you?
honestly anthills are very easy to breed.
i keep the sexes seperate all year.
in novemeber start cooling them to about 68-70 ntl
daytime they get 86-88 for basking temp for several hours
ambient day time cage temp is about 78
january i start to put the males in the females cage for several days.
mid jan i start to increase temps slowly.
i continue to bred them until the females ovulate, around march.
thats about it man
they usually lay early compared to my other stuff and eggs hatch around 40-45 days.
good luck man

Don
Thanks for the response. I have been meaning to give you a call to ask a few questions but I've just been swamped. I have a three year old female who I'm hoping will get with the male I got from you. Hes doing awesome, by far the pretiest anthill I have. Hopefully hes old enough to get the job done!

What temps do you use for incubation?

And do your anthills eat during the cooling period?
