Surinam?

DPreston Oct 19, 2006 03:49 PM

We recently rescued an adult male red-tail. He is full grown and close to 5 1/2 to 6 feet in length and is pretty thick ( and damn strong ). He's totally handleable ( we gave him 2 weeks to relax before even trying ) except for a bit of head shyness (He shy's away and jumps, never gone to strike but we don't want to chance it ). Anyway I'm going to try and get some pictures of him but how would I know if he's a Suri?

He has the back saddles that look sort of x like. He's also got a single stripe on his tail. I'll be getting pictures ASAP I know judging without pic's sucks.

If the saddles have a widows peak on them ( they come to a sharp point at the middle) then he is a surinam. Check the classifieds, there are a few surinams on there and you will easily be able to see what i am talking about.

if the saddles have "widow's peaks" that doesn't mean that the snake is a Suri, it could be any of a few BCCs like northern Brazilian, Guyanese or French Guyanese. Also these peaks don't always come to a "sharp point" some suri's have rounded peaks too.

Post some pics.

I have seen BCI's with peaks and they are far from suris. I have also seen and have suris without peaks. I would also like to point out that even with a picture it would be next to impossible to tell if it was a suri or not although it would be easy to tell if it is BCI and BCC.
