Cycling rainbows???

tsusnakeguy Oct 19, 2006 05:25 PM

I have posted about my red tails in the boa forum but I am curious as to which is better for rainbows, to cycle or not to cycle. I am curious as to how many of you cycle your rainbow boas and how many of you just put the two together and wish for them to mate. I want to know what is everyones luck with rainbows when cycling or not cycling. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you

Without knowing much about your set-up, It sounds like your male has decided to cycle himself. This is almost certainly why he isn't eating. I cycle my animals beginning in November and I continue the cool temperatures until pairs lose interest or the female shows signs of being gravid. I heat my cages from below and I often see males and females spending time off of the heat. I suspect I don't need to cycle them. In fact, the clutch that was dropped here on 10-4 was from a male that wasn't cycled at all. He and the female showed signs of being ready so I introduced them.

The clutch only produced 3 babies. 8-10 very small infertile ove were passed along with the babies. I attributed this to the small size of the female (she really was too small to breed). Perhaps, it was because the male wasn't cooled properly and didn't have the viable sperm to fertilize all of the ova. Hmmmmmm....

If you look at the very last post in the Breeding Procedures thread I've created a data sheet for breeding BRBs that was put together based off of the expertise in this forum.
