Green tree frog

ferguson Oct 19, 2006 05:31 PM

Hi, When I first got into herps my frist herps were three green tree frogs. I have alot of experience now ,but I have no clue what's happening to my frogs. About 2 months ago two of my first herps died, the last remaining one has become listless, unactive, unaware, and is losing a little weight( THis is very bizzare since he now longer has competition). I have noticed three red spots that I think are blood. These weren't there yesterday, and I don't have anything in the vivarium that could penetrate his skin. He has a small pinkish absces on his right side that has developed over a period of two days. I did an amature diagnosis and there isn't any evident signs of ectoparasites or nematodes. If anybody had any advice please tell me. Thanks

I would assume that you have removed him to a sterile enviornment (assuming since you said you were experienced). If not I would do that as most of the research that I've done seems to indicate that it tends to be due to something in the enviornment especially common with the hugh humidities and water.

Was there anything that would have coincide with the initial frogs getting sick, things like new plants, different water, temps or humidity at different levels than normal? If none of those things, I have heard of parasites coming from crickets etc, but not that common. I would assume you have ruled out red leg?

I am no expert at all, just a new owner that has been researching as I go. I would recommend posting to other boards as this one runs very slow and you need a more immediate response. Something like talktothefrog would be a good one.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately he passed away. The vet said it is an air transimittable virus related to TB That is killing frogs worldwide

do you have any plants that you think are toxic? that might be it, but i really have no idea, i would take him to vet, becausei f your other two died, there is a pretty good chance this one has the same thing and if you don't do anythign different the same thing will happen.
