Ghost or Anery?

RG Oct 19, 2006 09:34 PM

OK...so who can tell me, for sure, whether or not a Honduran is a ghost or Anery? The parents are triple hets...so it very well could be a ghost...and it could have been lighter than the other Anerys/ghosts from the clutch...but do you ever “really” know if it's a ghost or just a cleaner than normal Anery?

What do you guys think?

Either way…the belly on this snake is awesome…and if it proves out to have all three genetic traits (het or homo Hypo), then that is a real bonus.

Here is a male ghost that I'm compairing it to...you can see that this guy is a ghost, without a doubt. He has no black tipping in the larger, typically "red-er" area of hondurans.

Oh, the male pictured here is over 50 inches...and the female posted previously is 23 inches.

Sorry to clarify...the female in question is the first picture and the male "no doubt" a ghost is the second pic.

I think ghost. Maybe from a very dark bloodline and the hypos/ghosts aren't very clean.

I would say thats an anery. Too much tipping to be a ghost.

I agree .. although there are some dirty looking ghosts out there. It could just be a very clean anery.

until the snake sheds. Then you can tell.Anerys will leave alot of banding on speckling on the sheds and ghosts will basically shed clear because they are missing that layer.Even dark dirty ghosts will shed almost crystal clear but the best anery will leave dark bands on the shed.

she shed just before I took the pictures posted previously, and the one's shown below.

I washed the shed, it was in the trash, and dryed it. Then I cut it open to expose just the top layer. After looking at the shed, I can only fainly see the large dark bands, but I can't make out any of the tipping that can easily be seen on the snake.

So what do you think now Shannon...ghost or anery?

The truth of the matter is you really cannot say 100% for sure. Ghost hondos vary just as much as anerys and hypos do. Some are really light, some nice and clean, and some turn out with tons of black tipping. I have seen super nice light clean anerys that are comparable to ghost. Best way is to compare the clutches, the ghost will stand out as cleaner from the rest. Most marginal animals get sold as anerys because it not good when someone sends you a picture of the animal 2 years later with tons of tipping. I am not totally sold on the shed test either but it may be helpful. Good luck! mike
