I just finished speaking with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. The changes to the Animal Welfare Act only affect those licensed by the IL Dept. of Ag.

The rabies portion pertains to dogs (mammals) and is required by the Center for Disease Control. It is to slow down the process of pet shop to import dogs and then directly selling them top to the public.

So, no private breeders of herps are affected. The changes only affect Pet Shops. Herp sales are exempt since members are not licensed (for the most part) through the IL Dept of Agriculture.

But new proposed regulation will require health certs for all animals imported into Illinois. I currently ship scores of boxes to Illinois and this requirement will be onerous.

IF you are selling to a private individual than no health certificates are needed. If you are selling to a PET STORE/SHOP then health certificates are needed. Only IL Dept. of Ag. Licensees need certificates.

well when I spoke to them the other day I was told private dealers would be affected, you dont have to own a pet shop according to the info I was given all you have to do is buy dogs with the intent to resell and you have to be licsensed by them, same would apply for reptiles if this passes, rewgaurdless down playing this is stupid what if you or someone you know someday wants to open a pet store??? what about Potters store, last time I checked he put on a pretty kivck ass show that we all seem to love, isnt that enough reason to fit this??????
