are they this picky?

wanderinglost Oct 20, 2006 02:48 PM

I recently read that geckos, especially fat tails, will not eat crickets if they sit in there cage over night. They will eat what they want the first night, and will ignore the rest. Even if you take them out, and put them back they still wont eat them. IS this true?? This seems incredibly picky lol. Even I will eat left overs haha.

I don't know about that, but any uneaten crickets really should be removed daily in order to not stress the gecko and ensure proper gutloading and such. When I have missed a cricket after a feeding (hiding too well or something) if any of our leos see it before I do the next night, they'll take a swipe at it.

I only own a couple of fat tails. Sometimes I'll put in to many and a few will go uneaten overnight. Usually they will be eaten the next day but as sleepygecko said, it's better to take out what is left over because some geckos will stress, and there IS the chance that, if not fed, the crickets may chew on your geckos toes if he doesn't have a hide to get away from them in.
