Red Mountain Racer (Laticintus) Neonates

A clutch of successfully hatched laticinctas - Guess how many are in my hand? Counting the heads alone won't be accurate.

They love pinkie mice that have just gotten some fur.

Guess what? One of them had a striped mid-back. But when it's big, it'll probably look the same as any red adult.

They are just jewels of life.
Are they that large when they hatch?
.
Also, thanks for the web site.

Yup about that size or smaller. These were hatched from a 3-mth incubation period, whic porb explains why they're pretty big.

Congratulations Hans!

I've gotten the male I talked with you about and I've got to ask: how did you manage to keep all those hatchlings in your hand? My male moves with lightening speed (it actually sometimes almost jumps out of its box when I open the lid!) and when I try to hold the snake it will violently sweep with it's body and it will bite me. I also want to ask wether your hatchlings really have such red banding as the pictures show? My male has brown bands with a subtle red undertone, just like the hatchling pictured on your website under the headline "Captive breeding".

Greetings Bert.
Congrats on the lati, why don't u post it?
They yellow/orange band markings disappear as they mature into adulthood. And the colors fade too into a pure red body with black stripes, but could be because because they're exposed to elements in the wild. Perhaps in captivity, the colors can remain vivid. Just my theory, as i've not kept a lati from neonate to adult longer than a year and half yet.

Hans,

I will definitely post a picture. I have a friend coming over to my house this weekend to photograph the laticinctus and my male E. mandarinus, but I just checked with my male laticinctus and it's in shed!

Regards,

Bert
