Ventilation for Ball Python cages?

tex540 Oct 21, 2006 09:02 AM

I am almost to the point of starting the staining process on my Ball Python condo, but I realized the other day that I have not designed any ventilation into it. So, my question is, how much ventilation do Ball Python cages need? The is built out of plywood, so I was thinking that the easies thing would be to drill a series of maybe 6 holes along the top to allow for some airflow. Would that be enough? I also have some 12v computer fans that I could use if I need to create some positive airflow, but I don't think that would be needed. Any ideas are much appreciated so I can make some progress this weekend.

Depends what type of door you are using on how much added airflow you should have. You don't want the cage to be too closed off or you will end up with a stagnant smelly enclosure with the first urate/defecation.

I'd look at installing a vent somewhere on the enclosure as its easier to block off air once finished then it is to add it later.
