How to " tame " a snake

gtk4158a Oct 22, 2006 07:10 PM

Question gang: I have recently received a couple of honduran milksnakes that are 1 year old. They have been handled very little, judgeing by how they squirm and was wondering how i should go about tamig them. Also one bites and i guess i am going to have to wear gloves because it realy doesnt feel good!
Please give me a "course of action" and i would greatly appreciate any help and advice.Yes i know some hondurans never tame down but since the prettiest honduran is also the meanest i would greatly like to handle him a little bit... thanks gang, you rock!!!

you've got to just hold the snakes very frequently and endure some bites and some musks. Over time they will realize you're not tyring to hurt them and they will calm down. Some may never stop being jumpy (most will), but they will stop biting and musking.

That's the only way in my experience that they will calm down. Its not any fun but it will pay off after some time. Hold them several times a week. Stick with it.

Good luck.

Thanks dave, i will endure some bites and stick with it..In my opinion a really nice tangerine albino is the prettiest of all the honduran morphs and has to be the prettiest snake there is.That is a really pretty one you got there Man!!!

I just got a honduran milksnake(about 4 or 5 months old) and it bites and musks when i hold it. I expected it to be nervouse and flighty but not like tis. When i pick it up its neck twiches and it jerks around. It bit me for the first time yesterday. I hope he calms down over time.
