New rack! Q. for rack users..

ginevive Oct 22, 2006 08:06 PM

We built this rack today; have kept our snakes in tanks for years and decided to take the plunge. They are 41-quart Sterilite tubs.
My question is, have you ever had an escapee from your rack? I am concerned that they cuold possibly squeeze out in the front middle of the tub.. any advice?? Pic:

i use those same bins in my homemade rack--but i chose to leave covers on and they cant get oout. as long as bin fits tight they shouldnt be able to escape.

So it should be OK without putting anything to lock the tub in?
I am SO relieved to finally get rid of all those tanks and have this rack!

no need to lock them, the snake cant slide the tub out (unless it slides like ice)

a hole in the center that is the suitable size to drop a peg of some sort (or bolt) so it hangs down in front of the tub.

or...

Get a piece of metal stripping (any home depot has these) about 1/2 inch wide and cut it so it's about 2 inches long. Then drill a hole through the end and centered, and then screw it into the top edge of the shelves so it can pendulum swing down so the racks can not be opened unless you swing it up.

Another thing you can do is put an "eye bolt" through the top shelf & the bottom shelf in the center. Then get a metal rod 2" longer than the top shelf is high. Be sure the diamater of the rod is smaller than eye bolt. Drop the rod throught the top eye bolt & then the bottom one. Now all boxes are secured.
