Toe Problem

Grunngg Oct 22, 2006 09:12 PM

While handling my BTS a half hour ago I noticed one of his toes looked a bit large. He shed less then a week ago, so I thought maybe it was old skin and I messed with it a little to see if I could remove it. When inspecting the toe, I noticed the bottom of the toe was a reddish color.

What could this be? I'm in the proccess of giving my skink a good soak right now. And i'm going to keep an eye on it. Do you think I need to see a vet right away, or should I just watch it for now?

Thanks.

Hmm, could be a scrape or cut, or possibily retained shed that cut into the skin. After the soak, take a good look for anything that may be stick in the toe (not sure what you use for a substrate and other cage furniture) or scratches. If you find any, put a bit of neosporin or other antibiotic cream. Give it a few days to see if it gets better on it's own. IF it does, you should be fine. However it the swelling gets worse or spreads, consult a vet as soon as you can.

If it looks like something is indeed stuck in the toe, you can try to pull it out with tweezers or take him to a vet to have it removed.

I am also assuming nothign else has changed with your Blue tongue, that he is active and eating as well as normal etc. If he as become listless, not eating as well etc, then take him to a vet right away.
