75 Gallon.

Codyandkasie Oct 22, 2006 11:22 PM

OK.
Heres the scoop.
I recently got a water monitor in at work.
I really wanted it but Im not feeling the humidity levels it needs.
Plus the size it gets when its older.
I threw that idea out of the window.
I now have a 75 gallon tank with no occupants.
I really want to get another uro or pair.
What would you guys suggest for something nice to look at that would be ok in a 75 gallon for now?
Its going to be a show tank in my room.

Thanks for any input that might be provided.

I already have an ornate but I dont know if I want to put her in it.

i am really bad with gallons vs dimensions

this is from deerfernfarms:

a cage at least 4' long, 24" wide, 18" tall for an adult pair of Uromastyx.

obviously that would not hold true for an egyptian. alot of people say 4 times the dimensions of the animal. i really think it just depends on what you want to get. i know that is vague but cost must not really be an issue because ornates can get pricy.

if you have never been check out deerfernfarms.com and urotopia.com

Aquariums don't hold heat or humidity at all & fall way short of what's needed to enclose desert or tropical species. However, they can play a role elsewhere. What are your broader interests?
As I mentioned in a previous post, Ackies would do just fine in a 75, absolutely.

yeah, i would like a monitor.
I was going to get a water monitor but the cage is going to be in my room and dirt humidity makes a mess with light carpet.
Thats why I wanted a uro set up because that would mean sand and low humidity and that wouldnt be messy. Plus I dont like worrying about feeding live food even though its not that difficult with me working at a pet store.

I like the sound of the ackies because they stay relatively small but im pretty set on a pair of uros.
I already have a female ornate, maybe ill just find a male online or something then i can breed them.

Just don't forget that ornates are notorious for being nasty with cagemates. You might get lucky, but chances are good that you wouldn't be able to house them together. Be prepared for two full sized setups.

yeah, your right.
What would you reccomend for a pair of uros in that set up?

Mali or Nygerian?

What are the dimensions of the 75 gallon? If it's what I think it is, it would be better for just a single uro. If you really want a pair in there, I'd go with Saharans as they're a bit smaller. Better would be Sudanese as they're smaller still. Again - whatever you put in, be fully prepared to separate them at any time in case something happens.

4 ft x 18" x 18"

That's what I was thinking it was. Again - better for one medium uro like a Mali or two smaller ones like Sudanese.
